Brittany Sawrey-Coulson

Lovely to meet you! I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in Arizona, USA. My previous career is in conservation, where I worked as a zookeeper (primarily cheetahs, tigers, and elephants) and doing fieldwork in Namibia and Mauritius.

I received my MSc in Conservation Science from Imperial College London, and throughout my career I found myself most passionate about understanding and supporting my colleagues. Why had they gotten into this profession? How were they handling their distress? What would help?

This led me to go back and get my Masters in Counseling from Arizona State University, and I now work as a mental health therapist specializing in trauma. My passion is to bring accessible mental health resources to conservationists, helping them lead full, resilient lives as they navigate the unique challenges and risks of life as a conservationist.

FAQs:

  • Unfortunately unless you are physically located in Arizona, I cannot provide personal therapy to you at this time. However, I hope that my downloadable resources and courses are helpful as you find a local therapist that fits your needs!

  • My primary modalities are both Internal Family Systems (IFS-1) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Both of these are heavily integrated with somatic therapies to help each client holistically process their experiences—meaning instead of just thinking about or talking about change, we actually experience change and healing.
